Race Day ProceduresPlease read carefully, print and re read.
· Don’t be shy about asking a volunteer for help with equipment we need everyone to have time to sign in and catch the bus.
1. Sign waiver 2. Sign in, receive numbers 3. Collect gift bag and shirt. 4. Get maps and trail passes if desired. We will also have envelopes for the parking fee at the park. 5. Get to the bus.
· When passing, always pass on the left and let them know you are going around. Most of the time when I call out, not yell, “on your left” or “coming around on the left”, I am met with a thank you. · A word of caution, when you come upon small children be extra careful. Saying you are coming around on the left will almost guarantee that little sweetheart on training wheels with the ladybug helmet will look over her left shoulder and swerve right in front of you. · People walking dogs need a bit more advance warning. · If you are not comfortable calling out that you are passing, just start talking to your partner, and the people that you are coming upon will hear you. · If you slow down to go around someone believe me it doesn’t take much to jump on the pedals and get back up to speed. · Road crossing, what can I say, you don’t want to get hit by a car, do you? · There are some tough road crossing so please be careful. · I don’t require that you have a trail pass to ride on the Drumlin trail but the DNR does. We will be selling them at the sign in area. If you decide not to get one the worst thing that will happen is that if you are checked on the trail, they will sell you one. · Speaking of the DNR checking for trail passes, there is a good chance they will be. And if they are out there you must stop or at least slow down and wave your pass for them to see. · Do not speed past a ranger without showing your pass. They know about the race and I will hear about it. · Ok enough. Just please don’t hit anyone, Thanks.
· General Comments: · Be safe, Have fun and be courteous to fellow racers and fellow trail users. The metals aren’t really gold, they’re painted. · I have been asked many times about length of time it usually takes complete the course. The average run is 49 minutes, the average bike time is 58 minutes and the average time in the canoe is 60 minutes. · Be sure you have what necessary to fix a flat tire. · Don’t let a rainy day scare you away. Consider it a crazy element adding to the fun. Imagine how much more of a feeling of an accomplishment you will have. And remember the post race party is under a roof. Change into some dry clothes and we will have the fireplace going. And if the weather does happen to be foul that day I promise to shorten the course a little. |
